1. De kabel is ontworpen voor EIA RS-232- of RS-422-applicaties, gebruikt als computerkabels. Multi-pair kabels zijn beschikbaar. Het kan veel worden gebruikt voor productieprocescontrole en apparaatconverter.
2. RS-232, RS-422 en RS-485 worden allemaal gebruikt voor digitale gegevensoverdracht. De RS-232-standaard wordt voornamelijk gebruikt voor COM-poorten of seriële poorten van gewone computers. De interfaces van RS-422 en RS-485 worden voornamelijk gebruikt om verschillende apparaten in de industrie te verbinden. RS-232- en RS-422-overdrachtstype is volledig duplex, RS-485 als de halve duplex (2 draden), volledige duplex (4 draden). RS-232 Maximale afstand bij 9600bps is 15 meter, RS-422 en RS-485 zijn 1200 meter. RS-232 en RS232-topologie zijn point-to-point, maar RS-485 One is multi-point.
